Shihan Paul Finnerty is a highly skilled martial artist, with impressive achievements in both Kyokushin Karate and Kobudo. Holding the rank of 5th Dan in Kyokushin Karate and 5th Dan in Kobudo, Shihan Paul's martial arts journey spans over four decades, marked by a deep passion for the art form and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

His martial arts journey began in 1977 in the United Kingdom under the guidance of esteemed instructors such as Sam Horndl, Jeff Wybrow, and Shihan Steve Arneil. With their tutelage, Sensei Paul cultivated a strong foundation in Kyokushin Karate, embracing the discipline and rigor that the art form demands. However, his path took a slight detour when he pursued a semi-professional career in football (soccer). Nevertheless, his passion for martial arts persisted, leading him back to the fold in 1988.

Shihan Paul's return to the martial arts world was marked by a pivotal encounter with Shihan Rick Cunningham. Recommencing as a green belt, he recommitted himself to training, competition, and teaching. Through years of arduous practice, he demonstrated remarkable progress, eventually achieving the rank of 5th Dan, a testament to his skill and dedication. This significant accomplishment was bestowed upon him in 2023, solidifying his status as a respected martial artist within the Kyokushin community.

Throughout his career, Shihan Paul has managed his own dojos, serving as an influential figure and mentor to numerous aspiring martial artists.

His commitment to sharing his knowledge and passion for martial arts has left a lasting impact on his students and the wider community.

Shihan Paul's dedication extends beyond his personal training and instruction. He has actively participated in organizing tournaments and various aspects of Kyokushin organizations at local, state  and national levels. Through these roles, he has had the opportunity to train alongside some of the world's best karate exponents, further enriching his own understanding and skill set.

In 2017, Shihan Paul embarked on his first trip to Japan for martial arts training, an experience that deepened his connection to the roots of Kyokushin and allowed him to learn from renowned masters in the birthplace of the art form.
