Shihan Jon Ellis

Shihan Jon Ellis is a highly skilled martial artist who holds the grade of 5th Dan in Kyokushin Karate and 5th Dan in Hokama Kobudo.

Shihan Ellis commenced his martial arts training in 1988 with Sensei Ramon Bracamonte in Ballina, Northern Rivers.

Shihan John Ellis started competeing at an early age in Semi-contact kumite tournaments and did so until 1996, in that time he trained and competed regularly with the Australian team winning several titles along the way.

In 1995 Jon was graded to 1st Dan by Hanshi Howard Lipman at the same time becoming a Persnal trainer and Gym instructor. He also trained in Shoot fighting, BBJ and Wrestling while travelling Australia.

On returning Shihan Jon opened a dojo in Ballina with Shihan Mark McFadden and was graded to 2nd Dan in 2011. 

In 2014 now running Ballina dojo on his own he was awarded 3rd Dan by Hanshi Howard Lipman and the strength of the Northern Rivers dojos continue to grow.

Graded to 4th Dan in 2019 in Sydney by Hanshi Howard Lipman and regular trips to Okinawa and Japan mainland for training and seminars with International masters Shihan Jon's experience continued to grow and expand. 

In 2024 Jon once again embarked on a training trip to Okinawa that would see him graded to 5th Dan by Hokama Sensei in Kobudo and also 5th Dan in Kyokushin at the Honbu dojo in Ikebukuro, Tokyo by Sensi Rick Cunningham.

Shihan Jon Ellis very accomplished martial artist and continues his training with his organisation Sogo Kakutogi and Budo in Ballina.
