Shihan Rick Cunningham is a highly respected figure in the world of martial arts, particularly in the disciplines of Kyokushin Karate and Okinawan Kobudo. With a 7th Dan in Kyokushin Karate and a 8th Dan in Kobudo, Shihan Rick's expertise and dedication to the arts are truly appreciated by his students.

For over four decades, Shihan Rick has been deeply immersed in the world of Kyokushin Karate. His journey began in the early years of his life, and since then, he has tirelessly honed his skills and knowledge in this demanding martial art. In 1986, Shihan Rick took a significant step forward and began sharing his extensive experience by teaching Kyokushin Karate to aspiring practitioners.

Throughout his career, Shihan Rick has had the privilege of conducting numerous seminars and camps across Australia. His instructional abilities and deep understanding of Kyokushin Karate have made him a sought-after instructor, and he has left a lasting impact on students at every level.

Shihan Rick's passion for competition has driven him to participate in various tournaments, both domestically and internationally. In 1988, he proudly represented Australia in the first and only Commonwealth tournament. His relentless training and unwavering determination have made him a formidable competitor.

In 1993, Shihan Rick embarked on a journey to Japan alongside Hanshi Howard Lipman his long-time instructor and mentor. During this trip, he was honored to receive his 3rd Dan from the legendary Sosai Mas Oyama, the founder of Kyokushin Karate. This experience not only further deepened his understanding of the martial art but also served as a testament to his commitment and dedication.

Over the years, Shihan Rick's relentless pursuit of excellence continued to earn him higher ranks. In 2000, he was promoted to 4th Dan by Hanshi Howard Lipman, and in the following year, he accomplished the remarkable feat of completing the grueling 50 Man Kumite.

In 2006, Shihan Rick's expertise and contributions were recognized once again, as he was elevated to the esteemed rank of 5th Dan. Four years later, in 2010, Hanshi Howard Lipman personally bestowed upon him the distinguished honor of a 6th Dan. These achievements stand as a testament to Shihan Rick's unwavering commitment, unwavering spirit, and exceptional skill.

Shihan Rick's dedication extends beyond his own training and personal achievements. As a trusted senior instructor, he imparts his knowledge and wisdom to other organizations’ senior students.

Shihan Rick's commitment to the growth and development of Kyokushin Karate is evident in his regular visits to other dojos, where he conducts seminars and imparts his knowledge to eager students. Additionally, he plays a pivotal role in organizing seminars and special classes in Sydney.
